Opitical plastics are gradually replacing glass in many commercial uses. Polycarbonate uses among other to production of automobile headlamps, corrective lenses, plastics vessels, compact discs and protective windows, etc. However, his wider uses is limited because of low wear resistance and low scratch resistance. Coating on his surface of suitably desinged ceramic layers about definite chemical composition is one of methods improvement of these properties. Technology which lets receive layers in low temperatures (not crossing 100ÄŻC) are plasma-assisted techniques, these processes offers the possibility to coat polymer substrates.
This work contains the results of investigations amorphous hydrogenated (a-C:H) and nitrogenated (a-C:N:H) carbon layers obtained on policarbonate substrates using RF CVD method. The layers were deposited at the temperature not higher then 80ÄŻC, using methane, hydrogen, argon and nitrogen which were provided in different ratio to reactor. It was defined the optimum process parameters in which can be obtained the good adhesive layers to the substrate. The investigation of chemical composition, structure and nanostructure of these layers were carried out by using FTIR spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
Also were executed tribological research of layers such how friction and wear.
These layers are well adhesive to substrate surface and possess high hardness, high wear resistance, low friction coefficients, atomic-level smoothness and high transparency.
