The main character of this novel is Chris Kelvin. Chris Kelvin is a psychologist, who arrives at science research station hovering near the Ocean on planet named Solaris. He has got a mission to complete. He musts to find out what happens on Solaris. Before Kelvin's arrival one of the scientist committed suicide.
Just after Kelvin arrives at station he see that Snaut and Santorius behave strangely. They are afraid of something but nobody know who is "unsought visitor".
Chris is shocked and also scared of when he saw his wife Harey because she committed suicide a few years ago. Chris discovers that the plasmatic ocean is an intelligent creature - not only aggregation of matter encasing all planet. Chris tries to destroy the "false Harey" but he realises that he can't. After some time he decides to live with "projection" of his true wife as like she still living.
It's come out that the Ocean can make copies of people's mind - especially entailed with a traumatic incidents. The copies can't be destroyed without using Santosius-developed device because Harey and others can regenerate themselves extremely quickly.
Chris loses his Harey again because Santorius uses his invention and alll the plasmatic creatures disappeares.
