Roż nica między "was/were to-infinitive" a "was/were to have

Czy ktoś byłby tak uprzejmy i powiedział mi dlaczego w zdaniach poniż…ej została uż…yta forma "was to-infinitive" zamiast "was/were to have + past participle" mimo wyraźnej róż…nicy w tym co zostało zaplanowane, a co miało miejsce w rzeczywistości.
1. "I arrived at the hospital a few minutes before my appointment at 11 o`clock. But I was to wait a further two hours before seeing Dr Coulson"
2. "Jimmy planned to spend 6 months in Australia, but he was to return home after just a month saying that he had run out of money".
