Nowadays, our world is getting smaller. A lot of people travel through different countries getting to know new areas. Mass tourism is a threat, but also a blessing for local communities. I will try to explain my point of view.
There is no denying that many tourists in one place, leads to a number of disadvantages. First of all, there is an increase in environmental pollutions. Rubbish is not put into refuse bins and water is wasted. Secondly, wildlife is destroyed and many plants and animals die, because they can not adapt to the changed habitat. As a result our planet is less varied. What is more, touristic destinations are crowded and noisy places. Locals have to stay in traffic jams and in long queues in shops. It is very stressful and exhausting.
Although tourism can be very harmful to environment, it does have some advantages. For instance local trade is encouraged, new hotels and leisure centres are built. Visiting areas develop because tourists bring and spend money. In addition natives care more about customs, traditions, historical monuments, interesting places and other tourist traps. Furthermore, other cultures can interfere. Tourists and locals may learn from one other. They are able to use experiences of the past to lern and do better.
In conclusion, for some local communities mass tourism is a threat for for others it is blessing. The decision of what that phenomenon means for communities depends on different points of viw. There will always be advantages and disadvantages.
