When I was teaching my two sons to read and spell, I was completely overwhelmed with the difficulty of the task. Whe you are a native speaker, you take so much for granted. It was only when I had to teach my children to read and write, did I realize how difficult the language is.
English is a seemingly complex language with few good rules, (but hundreds of exceptions to the rules

So I started an investigation into the best program to teach children to read. That's when I discovered the genius of Romalda Spalding. She created a foolproff system involving 72 phonograms ( letter combinations that make distinct sounds: ae, ck, kn, ou, ai, ay, itd) and 29 spelling rules. It is the best system I have encountered. I have spoken english all my life, but was ignorant of the rules and logic of the english language (yes, there really is a logical system that can cover almost 90% of "rules"). I have no idea why this system is not used in every school in North America. I want to share it with the serious students of the english language out there. Your reading and spelling will improve immensely. And most importantly, spelling will begin to make sense (what a relief that would be). Spalding wrote a book called "The Writing Road to Reading". I confess the book is badly organized and difficult to follow, but her system of phonogram instruction and application of spelling rules is sheer genius. I have attached a link below to an article about the system and a synopsis of her 29 spelling rules. Enjoy and goodluck. Wydaje mi sie ze jezyk polski jest trudniejszy!
