The Industrial Revolution started in Great Britain in the second half of the 18th century. Thanks to science the number of new inventions and useful gadgets is increasing in breathtaking speed. Technological progress completely changes people’s life. Nowadays people use a lot of machines and new inventions, which help them in life, but sometimes are dangerous or damaging. There are a lot of pros and cons of new technologies.
The main argument for new technologies is the fact that our everyday duties become easier and less time-consuming. Thanks to washing-machine or dishwasher we don’t have to waste our free time for laundering clothes or washing dishes. What is more, we have free time with friends or family.
Secondly, technology enabled people to simpler and faster communication. The Internet can by used to communicate with acquaintances or family living abroad and also meeting new interesting people all around the world. The most frequently used gadget is a mobile phone. It’s a very handy thing which lets us contact with others wherever we are. We can also feel secure away from home, knowing that we can call for help if needed.
On the other hand technology has also many disadvantages. Every year technology is developing which is connected with polluting our planet. The air we breathe is polluted by smoke and fumes from factories and motor vehicles. Large power stations and obsolete cars emit noxious gases, for example carbon dioxide. In turn the buildup of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is the main cause of the greenhouse effect, what make serious hazard for environment.
Further bad side of technologies are civilization illnesses, for example overweight and adiposity. People become lazy, because various machines replace their work. In this way decrease their physical activity. Electronic equipment can emit damaging waves, for example microwave oven or TV set, which are unhealthy for the human organism.
I think it’s natural process that everything changes and evolves. Technology is inseparable part of our life. Technological progress and science facilitate our every-day life. But I have to add that it has both good and bad sides. To sum up, technology is a blessing but we have to be careful how do we use it. Taking everything into consideration I think that we have to learn how to use new inventions, however in moderation in order to not destroy our health and not poison environmental.
