Neil Aldin Armstorng was the first man to walk on the Moon.
He was born in 5th August 1930. When he flew the plane the first time in his live he was only 6 years old. He learnt pilot when he was teenager. Neil Armstorng got pilot license early that he could got driving license. He holds a degree in aeronautical engineering from Purdue University and a masters degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Southern California. From 1949 to 1952, he served as a naval aviator; he flew 78 combat missions during the Korean War. He received the Air Medal with two Gold Stars. During 1971-1979, Armstrong was professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati, where he was involved in both teaching and research. In 1955, Neil Armstrong became a research test pilot for NACA assigned to the prestigious X-15 program, flying this aircraft to the fringes of space at an altitude of over 200,000 feet and 4000 miles per hour. NACA is the short name of National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. It was the organization that was the predecessor of NASA. In 1962, he was selected as the first U.S. Astronaut serving as backup pilot on the Gemini 5 flight. In 16th July 1966 he was Command Pilot Gemini 8 flight which performed the first successful docking of two spacecraft. That flight isn't very easy because Gemini 8 fall in ratation. Astronaut managed to control situation. During this mision had to do crash-landing (crash landing is when lifetime is in dangerous). This is the first crash-landing of the american spaceship. In the same year (1966) he was the backup command pilot for the Gemini 11 mission in 1966. He also served as commander of the backup crew for the Apollo 8 lunar orbital mission in 1968. In July 1969, Armstrong commanded the Apollo 11 lunar landing mission, which included lunar module pilot Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and command module pilot Michael Collins.The Apollo 11 mission was launched from Cape Kennedy, Florida on July 16, 1969. The moon landing took place on July 20, 1969. (in Poland was already 21th ). This the fragment of conversation with NASA Mission Control & Neil Armstrong:
"Eagle...you're go for a landing"

''Tranquility Base here.The Eagle has landed."
On 22:56 the Armstong's feet taught the Moon (in Poland was 3:56). Several hours later he climbed out of the Lunar Module and became the first person to walk on the Moon and said:
"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Next Edwin ''Buzz'' Aldrin walked on the Moon too. They leave American flag and plaque about theirs flight. They did investigation and talked with president of United States Of America, Richard Nixon. Shortly after the flight, the International Astronomical Union named a small lunar crater named in his honor near the Apollo 11 landing site. The Armstrong Air and Space Museum, built in his home town commemorates his achievements and those of other Ohio aviators. Armstrong joined the faculty of the University of Cincinnati in 1971, and remained there as a professor of aerospace engineering until 1979. He was named vice chairman of the presidential commission that investigated the explosion of the Challenger space shuttle. In 2005, Armstrong said that a human voyage to Mars will be easier than the lunar challenge of the 1960s: "...I suspect that even though the various questions are difficult and many, they are not as difficult and many as those we faced when we started the Apollo (space program) in 1961." Armstrong also recalled his initial concerns about the Apollo 11 mission. He had believed there was only a 50 percent chance of landing on the moon. "I was elated, ecstatic and extremely surprised that we were successful," he said. In this year published Armstrong authorized a biography. This book called: "First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong " The author of this is James R. Hansen, it describes Armstrong's initial interest in aviation, his service in the Korean War and his experiences as an Apollo astronaut.
